VAASTU AND HARMONY

Vaastu Shastra is an integral part of Vedas which are believed to be five to seven thousand years old. The art of Vaastu originates in Sithapatya Veda which is a part of Atharvana Veda dealing with architecture. Many references of Vaastu can be found in Hindu Vedas, Puranas and other ancient literature. The term Vaastu has been derived from the word Vaas meaning to live. Vaastu shastra is an ancient doctrine which consists of precepts born out of a traditional view on how the laws of nature affect human dwellings. The designs are based on directional alignments. It used to be applied in Hindu Arctitecture, especially for Hindu Temples, and also covers other domains, including vehicles, vessels, furniture, sculpture, paintings etc.

The knowledge of Vaastu Shastra, which not very long ago had been little known except in India, is now being popularised throughout the world. It clearly exhibits how to create harmony and balance in our living and working environments. It exemplifies by making use of many ancient traditions as to how to respect our surroundings and derive maximum advantages offered by nature. The doctrine offers many vastu remedies as well as different ways of clearly understanding who and what we are in the purest form and how we are interconnected with the Universe. Vaastu also teaches us that everything in the universe is made of energy and is interconnected. Therefore the energies of our house should be properly and completely aligned with that of the environment. This will enable us to live in balance with nature. Vastu Dosh Nivaran of the dwelling units which are not vastu compliant need to be done to bring the same in balance with nature.

Our environment is made up of five elements – earth, water, fire, air and space. Incidentally we are also made up of the same five elements which are also known as panch-mahabhootas. These panch-mahabhootas are interconnected to our five senses i.e. smell, taste, hearing, touch and sight. Vaastu helps people to live with stability, love and peace with the panch mahabhootas. To take this reasoning further, let us understand that our world and we are influenced by the same Laws of Nature that affect our planet. When the above stated five elements are imbalanced because of any reason Mother Nature has many ways to restore equilibrium. We all in one way or the other suffer the consequences whenever any part of the earth is destroyed or damaged.

Now-a-days we are so head-over-heels and spellbound by technological growth that we have literally turned a blind eye to our rich heritage bestowed by our antecedents. It is the need-of-the-hour to wake up, delve our heads to understand our relationship with Nature and to do all that is required to enable us to live in harmony with it.

Each one of us on this earth has a basic need of a home. This home should be able to give peace, happiness and healthy life to every inhabitant. Every home or dwelling unit need to be built as per basic laws of nature i.e. Vaastu which ensures maximum benefits to the living beings. One should make use of Vastu Shastra Tips while undertaking construction of human dwellings.

We should always remember that our ancestor’s gift has to be very carefully taken care of which would help us in living a peaceful, happy and satisfied life.

Leading a Happy and Peaceful Life

Leading a happy and peaceful life is a dream of every individual. However, as this dream is not pursued in a methodical and scientific manner one thinks that it is beyond one’s control and accept life full of adversities and bad luck as wish of God. One by sheer negative thinking even blames God for all his troubles. Let us understand that God can and will never be happy giving troubles to his creatures. Can a gardener uproot the plants, planted by him? Absolutely NO. Similarly God can never be against us.

God is synonymous with nature and we should endeavour to make nature work for us by balancing the five basic elements of Vastu – which help in vastu dosh nivaran - constructing the structures of our residential units. On this earth everything, including all substance, living creatures are made from Panchamahabhoot that is Five Basic Elements. These are The Earth, The Water, The Fire, The Wind and The Sky. These five elements are in fact very familiar with man and his environment. Nature has given them their proper place according to merit. If these elements are given appropriate places in our structures we become one with Nature with no scope left for any vastu remedies. As a matter of fact nature is the God.

Even a simple research on certain structures and/or lives of few people with respect to their residential units can divulge that the main reason for their leading an unhappy life was imbalance of 5 basic elements of nature. Due to this imbalance there may be accidental deaths, unexplained diseases, unnecessary fights between couples etc. On the contrary if there is proper balance of 5 basic elements of nature one may observe people even with ordinary capabilities leading a happy and satisfying life with respectful children, loving couples and with no apparent diseases.

We must understand that the five basic elements of nature are of paramount importance for the life on earth. Animals, birds and plants adhere completely to nature and that is why their lives are better than us. We raise structures of our houses, which do not allow proper sunrays, air into our houses which in turn give problems for our health, happiness, prosperity and relations among our family. Not only the raising the structures but proper care should be given in selecting a plot for building a house to achieve health, wealth, happiness, harmonious relations with the family members.

It, therefore, can safely be concluded that mental peace is definitely achieved by following the basic principles of Vastu Shastra while raising the residential or commercial structures. In addition, in case of change of house care should be taken to move into a new house which should be conforming to the Vastu principles. If this is not done then the peace of mind, happiness and prosperity will stay away from the life of people.

Vastu Purusha Mandala

To appreciate the concept of Vastu Purush one must have the basic understanding of Vastu Purusha Mandala which is very crucial part of Vastu Shastra. Vastu Purusha Mandala is accurate and illustrative basis for designing any structure. It is also very basic architecture and all other figures are derived from this design. It is the abstract plan of any structure which broadly incorporates the coarsely bodies and mystical forces. Purusha stands for energy, power, celestial man. Mandala denotes any plan or chart representing universe.

According to Vedas the surface of the earth is represented as a sphere and not as a flat surface. However in context of the earth as a home or resident it is represented as four-cornered in reference to the horizon's relationship with sunrise and sunset, the North and South direction. It is called four cornered and represented in the form of the Prithvi Mandala.

Vastu Purush Mandala also helps in establishing the requirements of structural design with respect to various directions. Each direction has been allotted specific role. Entire body of Vastu Purush body is sanctified as he is the presiding holy being of any site whether big or small. He is depicted as lying on it with the head in the northeast and legs in the southwest but he keeps changing position throughout the year. Each part of his body has energies that help us in living a happy and peaceful life.

Energy originates from the center of any structure. There are various schools of thought which believe that it comes from the North East corner. But as a matter of fact it comes from the center of the structure i.e. also known as Brahmasthan. This energy is often known as subtle earth energy which meet subtle cosmic energy (Unified Field). It is known to meet in the center of the building which then spreads outward in all the directions of the structure. The coming together of these two energies results in forming of the five elements which then distribute in the four corner zones.

Brahma occupies the Central Portion – The Brahmasthana and other Gods have been around in a concentric pattern. There are 45 Gods in all including 32 outer deities.

The main directions of any structure along with their deities have been given below for your easy understanding of the same.

Centre – Ruled by Brahma the Creator of the Universe, North – Ruled by Kubera the Lord of Wealth, South – Ruled by Yama the Lord of Death, East – Ruled by Indra the Solar Deity, West – Ruled by Varuna the Lord of Water, Northeast – Ruled by Lord Shiva, Southeast – Ruled by Agni the Fire Deity, Northwest – Ruled by Lord of Winds, Southwest – Ruled by Ancestors.
